WHY OH BABY?

Oh Baby is unique in that it offers a holistic and well-rounded perspective on parenting and child development issues. My extensive background in child development and infant mental health ensures that I will always take an evidence-based, scientific approach when crafting my services and educating families. I come equipped with an MS in Child Development, extensive training in pediatric sleep consulting under Dana Obleman and The Sleep Sense™ Method, certifications in breastfeeding support and The Happiest Baby on the Block, and more. I strive to offer parents not only personalized support but also educated guidance when it comes to raising little ones; therefore, all consultations will take age-appropriate physical, cognitive, and behavioral stages into consideration. My passion for working with families and young children drives me to continue learning both from experts in the field and the clients with whom I work.

I'M NOT LOCATED IN PHOENIX. CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?

Yes! The benefits of technology allow me to work with clients nationwide. Although I would love to meet you in person, we can communicate via phone, Skype/Facetime, and e-mail.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SLEEP CONSULTATION?

During our private consultation, we will review your current sleep situation and lifestyle. After getting a better sense of your parenting style, your child's personality, and your family's needs, I will lay out an easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan for bedtime, naps, and how to handle night-waking. I will also use the knowledge you have of your child to customize his or her sleep plan as you will have the best sense of what approach is best for your little one. I will guide you as you teach your child healthy sleep habits, and you will learn how to respond in a way that supports your child's needs in developmentally appropriate ways but also encourages independence. I promise that after our time together, you will feel empowered to respond to any setback.

Our work together is not done after that initial meeting. My packages are unique in that you will have extensive follow-up support for the first 2-3 weeks (with options for longer) as you implement your sleep plan. We will have scheduled phone check-ins to answer any questions that arise or to make any tweaks if things just aren't feeling right. You will also have unlimited access to my personal e-mail while you are implementing the sleep plan. I want to make sure you feel comfortable throughout the entire process and by the end of our scheduled time together, you feel confident about your child's sleep situation.

HOW EARLY CAN I BEGIN SLEEP TRAINING MY CHILD?

You can begin teaching your child healthy, independent sleep habits from birth. If you are expecting and want to learn more about how to do this or if you have a newborn from 0-4 months, check out our Prenatal/Newborn Package. Typically children are not ready for longer periods of sleep until they are older and have matured physically and developmentally. If you are interested in more formal sleep training options, I ask that your child is at least 4 months old.

WILL YOU ASK ME TO LET MY BABY "CRY IT OUT"?

Never! My definition of the Cry It Out (CIO) method is putting your child down awake, leaving the room, and not coming back until the morning. With CIO, there is no interaction during the night and thus no teaching of skills. My philosophy is a gentle approach where parents support their little one while they learn independent sleep skills. However, Oh Baby does not judge or turn away any parenting styles. If you are looking for a "quicker" method of sleep training, we can certainly explore other options.

It is normal for some crying to be involved, even when employing the gentler methods of sleep coaching. We are all very protective of our sleep routines, no one is a fan of change, and children don't typically enjoy learning to fall asleep on their own. They may initially protest the "new way" of doing things by crying. This is normal.

The good news is using my background in infant mental health, I will teach you methods to minimize the crying and support you through the anxiety it may cause. At the end of the journey, everyone will be rewarded with a great night's sleep.

CAN I SLEEP TRAIN IF I'M BREASTFEEDING?

YES! Breastfeeding and healthy sleep definitely can co-exist. As a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist and a Certified Sleep Consultant, I have the unique ability to help guide you towards a better night's sleep while maintaining the breastfeeding relationship and keeping up your supply.

DO YOU WORK WITH OLDER CHILDREN?

My expertise is working with children 0-6 so my developmental support packages are targeted to families with younger children. However, I provide sleep support for families with children up to 10-years-old. If you are interested in booking my services for your older child, set up a free 15-minute evaluation and let's get started!

I'VE ALREADY READ EVERY BOOK. HOW CAN A SLEEP CONSULTANT HELP ME?

Most of the time, my clients are parents who have already exhausted all the suggestions they’ve received from books, blogs, and their immediate support system but still continue to struggle. That's because there truly is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to sleep challenges. As a pediatric sleep consultant, I have the experience and training to recognize which problems result in specific behaviors and can work with you to develop a customized plan for your family that addresses those individual issues. I also provide exclusive guidance and encouragement during the weeks following our consultation. This is one of the things that makes Oh Baby packages so unique: I will never throw information at you and walk away. Every sleep package includes extensive follow-up support (with options for more) to ensure that you feel confident in handling your child’s unique sleep needs.
